Stroke presents a series of new inkjet prints and paintings on clear film, some pinned directly to the wall and others projected as handmade slides. Informed by research into the representation of fine artists in street fiction novels, the work in the exhibition also extends Jemison’s investigation of sequence: the relation between part and part. Subjecting painted, printed, and photographic gestures to clinical repetition, Jemison uses reproduction as a lens through which to understand narrative and political stasis.
